The Yorta Yorta Indigenous Training Centre, also known as Yenbena is an initiative of the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation, the Australian National Training Authority and the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated.

It has been in operation since March 2001 to provide targeted and culturally appropriate training to Indigenous young people.

Yenbena is located on Yorta Yorta traditional lands situated in Barmah.

The Yorta Yorta community has sought funding from the Victorian State government to tailor a training program to meet their own needs. In order to provide training, Yenbena has been registered as a Registered Training Organisation with the State Training Board of Victoria.

The Yenbena Indigenous Training Centre provides an example of best practice in relation to increased and targeted employment and training outcomes for Indigenous people, community participation and capacity-building.

Yenbena have previously run courses in the following areas:

  • Coorong Tongala (Koorie Education);
  • Business (Office Administration);
  • Business Administration, Community Work;
  • Horticulture;
  • Agriculture;
  • Site Conservation and Assessment; and
  • Workplace Training.

YYNAC is in the process of securing appropriate training courses in the very near future for 2009.
